Good resistance news: An 'Achilles heel' discovered in antibiotic resistant bacteria. Scientists in Canada found the critical vulnerability: bacteria need zinc. Deprive them of the nutrient & their stability is disrupted making them susceptible to antibiotics again www.genengnews.com/topics/infec...
$1,131,794,901 That's how much Big Oil has spent over the last 30 years paying off Congress to look the other way on climate action while the planet burns. Well, the planet is burning. Don't let them look away.
They are taking back campaign promises faster than they made them.

Sure Happy It’s Thursday! What song is stuck in your head right now?
Great letter in today's Guardian. What sort of free speech is prevented by factchecking, Zuck?
DEI is the bogeyman for those who believe that if I’m gaining, they must be losing. The idea that everything would be fine if only white men ran the world is a weak argument—clung to by insecure men who can’t handle reality. DEI ensures women & BIPOC are looked at fairly IN ADDITION to white men.
Imagine watching disaster movies like The Day After Tomorrow or 2012 and thinking that the apocalyptic weather scenes were the “unrealistic” part. Turns out those scenes were almost bang on. The unrealistic part was the humans working together to overcome the problem & save the world. Sigh.
I was interviewed at CES this morning. We mentioned that consumers will decide whether they want to be on a platform that is “unfiltered free speech “ or “ moderated”. I mentioned that I loved , and spontaneously people started clapping 🔥.
From : “Hertling believed that the Mark Thompson-led network was prioritizing certain pundits more focused on delivering politically incendiary—and sometimes misleading—rhetoric than fact-based commentary.“ www.status.news/p/mark-hertl...
Every time I listen to BBC World Service radio I'm reminded how excellent it is. A comparatively balanced, nuanced, global perspective that we don't get to see much of from many other newsrooms.

The devastation in California is apocalyptic. The images are heartbreaking. At least 5 fires continue to burn without containment. I’m grateful for the bravery of not only the first responders, but every day people who have been helping others, including animals, evacuate to safer locations.
Me and Anjelika at my doctor appointment now. Please send us some good vibes and positivity.🙏💜
A key thing to appreciate about big wildfires is that they reach an intensity that humans simply can't deal with. Sometimes they are about 10 times more intense than the best firefighters and planes can fight. Offer as much money as you want: it's too late. www.ft.com/content/540f...
2025 is gonna be the most “editor sent it back for being too on the nose” year in human history
I don't know if the LA fire department is properly funded or not but the claim that the city cut its budget last year — which is circulating widely on the right — is false. As Politico notes, the budget actually INCREASED by $50 million. A portion of the funding was approved in a separate bill.

ABC, NBC & CBS dedicated about 16 minutes of airtime last night to the California wildfires without once mentioning climate change. Since the news failed do it's job, here's a short summary of the role of climate change and wildfire risk: www.noaa.gov/noaa-wildfir...
An astrophysicist and a neurosurgeon concluded that the human brain and the universe basically grow as a result of similar physical principles. Today’s House of Study goody looks at a myriad of similar connections, with many exquisite photos:
These extraordinary photos of the LA fires have been shared widely on social media, often without crediting the photographer. These are all the work of Ethan Swope, an LA-based photojournalist working for AP. You can follow his remarkable reporting here👇 www.instagram.com/ethanswopeph...

You will read countless times today that the LA mayor cut the LA Fire Department's budget by $23 million. That is a lie. The budget was actually *increased* by $50 million.

The U.S. will rebuild its stockpile of bird flu vaccines for poultry matched to the current strain of the virus circulating among commercial flocks and wild birds, the Department of Agriculture said on Wednesday.
In 1850, the California government banned the controlled burning that Indigenous people had been doing for centuries. The practice controlled the forest density, scaled down undergrowth, and promoted fire-resistant species. It reduced the severity, mileage, and overall number of forest fires. 1/5
