one thing i keep thinking about is how there is simply no way to design a constitutional system that can resist authoritarian incursion if participants in that system do not actually care that much
Yo , no one is picking up your Senate phone and you don’t even have a voicemail. Vote no on cloture and the spending bill or I will do whatever it takes to make sure the next Senator from Illinois has basic constituent services set up during business hours.
Girl, I get it: “Is it possible to love an institution the way you love a person, fiercely and without reservation?” Read on why she left the www.newyorker.com/news/essay/w...
I know this is going to sound naive or earnest, but I genuinely find myself shocked by how little people seem to be upset by the levels of corruption we're seeing. Is that the median voter assumes everyone is corrupt already? Or isn't actually getting stories about the corruption?
UPDATE: From the original poster of the letter on FB:
This letter appeared in the Bloomsburg PA Press Enterprise this morning. I am assured the writer is who he purports to be, an Air Force veteran.

Reminder that I don't argue with fascists here, I block them.
I also block people who whine that I won't listen to the fascists.

One of the best and highest uses of a government is to provide goods that are uneconomical to be produced locally but have massive surplus if produced at all. Particularly notable examples include:
* disease and weather forecasting
* basic science, esp in energy/health
* natural disaster insurance
The government claims Mahmoud Khalil was already in NJ on his way to Louisiana by the time his habeas petition was filed—an argument that the NY federal court lacks jurisdiction.
But Khalil's lawyer checked the ICE locator when she filed and even 4 hrs after, and he was listed as still being in NY.
AUSA Waterman: The petitioner was in New Jersey by them. Jurisdiction never vested here under the caselaw. He was not present here at the time of filing.
Judge Furman: But you agree to the law as I've stated it? Where is he now?
AUSA: Jena, Louisiana.
