Is there anyone out there that is mapping any delayed or cancelled federal payments ? Would be really interesting to see which towns and cities are going to be hit
Pete's here
Hi Bluesky! Glad to be here.
Doug Mills is one of the greatest to ever do it.
This is America, 2025
In one weekend (!!), one New York Times photographer, Doug Mills, travels from Gitmo to the Super Bowl to take two unforgettable images of where we're at as a nation

The US DOT says it's planning to prioritize areas with high marriage & high birth rates for funding.
Our new analysis @urbaninstitute.bsky.social shows this would disproportionately fund:
—Communities with a higher white resident share
—Low-density areas
—High-income areas
—Car-dependent areas

The AMA has a YouTube page where you can catch up on all the fun, ongoing TB & bird flu outbreaks, since the CDC is no longer allowed to do that: youtube.com/watch?v=HlPB...

Thank you Meta for finally addressing my biggest problem with your apps (they protect my privacy too much)
A memo at Meta states privacy teams will have less authority to delay products and previous privacy decisions will be reviewed, as some are overly "risk-averse" (Kalley Huang/The Information)

Among other reasons, censorship is bad because a lot of these terms are used multiple ways. “Confirmation bias” is the most common logical fallacy, for example - I’d like the folks at NSA to be particularly attuned to it.

OK, why not, transit wonk thread.
In a huge metro area like Chicagoland, transit exists (and lots of it is great!) but for the suburbs, it really only caters to an old kind of commuting.
Even if people are willing to transfer from Metra to the L to get elsewhere downtown - that's still downtown.
And even in my case, where I'm leasing an office of my own accord, the kind of office I want would, if it were close to the train station downtown, would be ridiculously expensive.
So my car expenses actually save me some money. This is a problem.
It's a long post, but it's Charity at her best. She explains why diversity, despite it being flawed and lagging, is an important signal for an organization's values

I know a lot of people are feeling incredibly scared and demoralized right now. I get it; I am too. (Who knows if my marriage will still be valid in two years?)
Scientists determined that Lucy, a human ancestor from 3.2 million years ago, couldn’t have beaten modern humans in a foot race.
So today I noticed that Adobe Illustrator has a dedicated setting for …the color of the Share button in the title bar and I just can’t stop imagining possible scenarios that led to this being added to the product. 🥲
