My 3rd great grandfather, John Harper, fought in the Civil War with the 28th Regiment of U.S. Colored Troops (https://nps.gov/civilwar/search-battle-units-detail.htm?battleUnitCode=UUS0028RI00C).
He discharged from duty on Nov. 8, 1865, in Corpus Christie, Texas.
Why? “Services no longer required.”
