This is a heavily interactive web application, and JavaScript is required. Simple HTML interfaces are possible, but that is not what this is.

It's up to you how you build your app, but this is reasonable on two levels:
- Your app is not just "the UI". It's _all_ the data needed to execute behavior. That can include auth.
- Auth tokens definitely qualify as "global app state" conceptually
