This is a heavily interactive web application, and JavaScript is required. Simple HTML interfaces are possible, but that is not what this is.

imo it's less that we're stuck with bash and more that the alternatives are worse in several ways. I think you can see it with OAI responses/harmony stuff happening in real-time -- you can make it 'better' by putting more stuff behind your api at the cost of interop
