This is a heavily interactive web application, and JavaScript is required. Simple HTML interfaces are possible, but that is not what this is.

One catch is that @element.io isn't currently trying to *be* a Discord killer - in order to get financially sustainable, the focus is currently on public sector messaging: https://element.io/matrix-in-germany etc. As a result there is sadly a definite feature gap between what a FOSS community would expect.
