Personal opinion and recommendation:
Avoid large conferences like WeAreDevelopers and embrace + enjoy smaller ones like @localfirstconf.com.
I'm currently watching localfirstconf talks and all of them are more interesting than anything I've seen on WAD by a large magnitude!
