This is a heavily interactive web application, and JavaScript is required. Simple HTML interfaces are possible, but that is not what this is.

Makes me think of push vs. pull. When something needs to happen based on an event, push (reactive) is required. OTOH, when you want to read stuff, pull (incremental materialized views) works fine.
