毛利秀元は安土桃山～江戸初期の武将・大名で、毛利元就の孫にあたる人物。豊臣秀吉に仕え朝鮮出兵などに参加し、のち関ヶ原後に長門国長府藩の初代藩主となった。豊臣・徳川双方と縁戚関係を結び、毛利家を支えたほか、茶の湯にも親しんだ文化人としても知られる。
