This is a heavily interactive web application, and JavaScript is required. Simple HTML interfaces are possible, but that is not what this is.

it’s all kind of accidental because early on link embeds had to be added manually by clicking (aargh), we eventually changed it to automatic but didn’t really adjust or rethink the actual behavior
