Synchronicity. If the Universe wishes you to succeed, then it will conspire for you to succeed. Novelist as a Vocation by Murakami.

Hi Vale! As someone who has been a massive proponent of "build in public" I held your belief for so many years. But large-scale scraping by the AIs has changed everything for me. I'm not interested in just being fodder for the LLMs. Recently I've been getting into dfos.com by @metalabel.bsky.social [contains quote post or other embedded content]

Murakami on novelists 😂 "Almost all [novelists] live under the assumption that 'my way is right while virtually all other writers are wrong'."

rayne fisher-quann quoting the famous Walter Benjamin line: "Fascism sees its salvation in giving the masses the ability to express themselves in lieu of granting them their rights." It's so true: everyone's expressing themselves 24/7 every day nowadays but none of it is going anywhere. [contains quote post or other embedded content]

https://youtu.be/0BaDQCjqUHU?is=3Ctwf5l6JwoB8qWL Derek Sivers is an absolute national treasure. Currently relistening to this. "Useful, not true" 1. Almost nothing is objectively true. 2. Beliefs are placebos 3. Rules and norms are arbitrary games that can be changed 4. Refuse ideology. Choose ideas, not ideology

An amazing post by Tom Beck, recommended by slowcore: https://paragraph.com/@driftless/why-artists-cant-get-paid "Art is important, but it is not valuable. Platforms are much better at capturing the value of the network than any individual nodes on that network (the artists)."

https://youtu.be/9Qs3GlNZMhY?is=-Z0Q4i9AOjjqisTS I think ab this monologue from Agent Smith in The Matrix (1999) frequently. It's in my pantheon. 🏛️ "...it was a disaster. No one would accept the program. Entire crops were lost... I believe that as a species human beings define their reality through misery and suffering."

Obviously, we can discuss causation vs correlation but imo it is massively causation. Speaking as a man, once I got married, my entire worldview changed.

https://www.wsj.com/politics/policy/steve-davis-elon-musk-cost-cutting-cc1dc7c9?st=XXH5a9&reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink Steve Davis cites Armageddon (1998) as the reason he pursued engineering. I have a living file where I keep tabs on everyone who publicly cites Armageddon (1998) as having a massive, life-changing influence on their life trajectory. I call it my "Armageddon file".
