I do in-class polling in my classes, which my students love. But it's exhausting. Last year without a PollEverywhere license the school told me to switch to the Forms plug-in. I updated every poll. This year? Oh, the plug-in updated, so the polls have all vanished again. I can't do this every year.

My niece procrastinated picking her summer reading book so I chose for her: The Cricket in Times Square. I read it as a child and remembered loving it, but oops, I forgot about the casual racism. But we listened to the audiobook as we read and the audiobook took the racism out! Interesting.

Yesterday I had my first experience with age verification. My niece wanted to play some game but my sister didn't have her ID on her and refused to provide a credit card number. I volunteered my ID. And then I had to pose for three separate pictures like a mug shot. It freaked me out.

My grandmother has been dead for six months. We had her funeral on my sister's birthday so we never celebrated. We just celebrated her half-funeral instead. Meanwhile my mother is still jumping through hoops trying to get the (extremely modest) payout on the life insurance policy. Exhausting.

A bird pooped on me while I was outside at a cafe working. Then I went to Dunkin and I guess the guy in front of me was so rude to the workers that when I got up there and got my drink they were like, "You were so pleasant after that guy, your drink is free!" The bird poop was indeed good luck!

When I was a kid growing up we spent all summer in my grandparents' pool. A favorite occupation was diving contests. (Their pool is old and deep.) My sister lives in that house now and I am supervising my niece's birthday party in that very same pool. They're having diving contests. :)
