I write and talk about the NBA, especially the salary cap, CBA and roster construction stuff. I do these things for Spotrac, NBA Front Office Show and The Basketball Bulletin. Any nonsense you see here is from me, not my employers.https://bsky.app/profile/keithsmithnba.bsky.socialhttps://bsky.app/profile/keithsmithnba.bsky.social/post/3my7ysnf3sc23NBA teams have to be at no more than 15 players on standard contracts and three players on two-way contracts by 5 PM ET today. But, man, the Thunder going to be looking at a potentially massive tax bill next season. Can't wait to see how they navigate it.19 Oct 2026 02:40 +0000at://did:plc:luofuy2uw7g4vsd2vbwidtel/app.bsky.feed.post/3my73rlalqc2qhttps://bsky.app/profile/keithsmithnba.bsky.social/post/3my6y4iwrxk2qMy wife and I were reminiscing about Starter jackets we owned back in the day. Might have backfired, because now our daughter wants one from the re-launched collection. Not a big deal, except that they are like $200 and we live in Florida, where you rarely need a jacket!19 Oct 2026 01:34 +0000at://did:plc:luofuy2uw7g4vsd2vbwidtel/app.bsky.feed.post/3my6y4iwrxk2qhttps://bsky.app/profile/keithsmithnba.bsky.social/post/3my6sasgezc2qThe Suns were smart to delay Oso Ighodaro's extension until the 2028-29 season. The books are still pretty tight through next season, so Ighodaro at $2.5M is a steal. Really good work by Ighodaro and his reps to get him almost $10M AAV too. That's a huge win for a former second-round pick.18 Oct 2026 23:49 +0000at://did:plc:luofuy2uw7g4vsd2vbwidtel/app.bsky.feed.post/3my6sasgezc2qhttps://bsky.app/profile/keithsmithnba.bsky.social/post/3my6rnwliyc2qOSO!!! Not much has changed in two years, and you could argue it's gotten worse. I got thoughts from front office execs, coaches and players in this piece: https://www.spotrac.com/news/_/id/2487/the-nbas-vanishing-15th-roster-spot [contains quote post or other embedded content]18 Oct 2026 13:22 +0000at://did:plc:luofuy2uw7g4vsd2vbwidtel/app.bsky.feed.post/3my5p6d3qjs2qhttps://bsky.app/profile/keithsmithnba.bsky.social/post/3my5oz4n6dk2qWhile there has been a lot said about middle class contracts disappearing in the NBA (They aren't. They just happen in extensions vs free agency), a valid complaint is teams leaving their 15th roster spot open. More than half the NBA looks to start the season with an open spot.
