But yes, this is 100% the lens through which I view every topic I work on or read about, from building codes to earthquake resilience to baseball. Well done. Tbh, the biggest blunder this year was the insulting snafu over pride night. Otherwise, my takeaway from this season of Giants on the radio is that 90% of our economy is now sports betting, personal injury lawyers, and Taco Bell Street Chalupas.* [contains quote post or other embedded content]29 Sep 2026 21:16 +0000at://did:plc:mflagjqmkons2hxtdgtyh64x/app.bsky.feed.post/3mwoqsjrn3s26https://bsky.app/profile/dbonowitz.bsky.social/post/3mwocjkiuod2iomg, Showalter reminiscing about everyone from Sparky Anderson to Ronnie Wedgeworth lol ... explains how to spot and nurture talent with everything good (sliding on both legs!?) and weird from the first chapter of Moneyball ... Even after 10 years, the arrogance and sense of impunity of everyone in T's circle is still remarkable. The 2 big red areas are parks -- essentially open space with very few residents (especially the lower one) -- divided into very few assessor's parcels. Do they calculate "customers affected" by square footage of the lot? I'm confused. Just donated to Peltola, Jackson, Brown, and Talarico ($546 each). I urge you to do the same, if you're able. A year ago, it was barely thinkable that we might win a Senate majority. Now it's real, and we cannot miss this opportunity. They're likable, with good attitudes, but they're young and prone to bad choices. It's just WAY too lenient. It's now going through the first round of public comments. I hope there will be a second round. Yes, and the building code assigns them to Risk Category IV (or even RC V for DoD). So what's the right RC for a new hyperscale data center that might serve air traffic control, power plants, first responders, etc. ... and do we know WHICH data centers those are? This is gutting, but I note two things not mentioned: - home schooling, the only "school choice" much of the country has. - teachers' unions. Key sentence for me: "Our experience at P.S. 307 exposed the fallacy that caring families are more important than competent teachers."
