FreeBSD is now providing official packages for the base systems, how to switch to them is documented here: wiki.freebsd.org/PkgBase in particular the status and the initial setup of this pages have been updated to match the actual situation ! Be careful it is still alpha !

anyone on the FreeBSD is parsing directly the content of the packagesite.pkg file? if yes why (You are not supposed to do it, so if you do I need to understand why :D), I plan to do some breaking changes there and I need to know what I will break!
