What strikes me about the Foundation novels is how pedestrian friendly Trantor is.
Gaal Dornick arrives by spaceship, but mostly gets around the planet on foot and elevator. In the prequels, Hari Seldon takes public transit everywhere.
(It's a stand-in for Asimov's experience of New York City.)
