Great chat with hospital in-patient nurse this afternoon. Nurse P: I’m from Haiti. I recognize extreme violent corruption when I see it. Never thought I’d see it here.

Staving off the night-before-major-surgery panic attacks with some @seananmcguire.bsky.social because the Price family battling / saving Cryptids is absolutely my comfort read. #Booksky 💙📚🐉

Me, freaked about tomorrow’s surgery, growling and snapping: shit I’m sorry Spouse: that’s ok. You get a free pass for, oh, at least a month. ❤️❤️ Also - Bluesky, y’all can bear witness, right? He said a month. 😏

So much this! You turn 65 and all of a sudden you get fucking bombarded with relentless crap - to the point I almost deleted a legit heath provider message cos I assumed it was the bajillionth scam text of the day. [contains quote post or other embedded content]

Curiosity led me to this plot-heavy, Christie-tribute - with an absolute gut-punch reveal near the end that had me immediately going back to the beginning to see how the author pulled it off. Brilliant . #Booksky 💙📚🔎

“If one man hadn’t been bitten by a monkey…” Brilliant thread on an obscure but ultimately very impactful bit of European history. 👇🏻🧵 [contains quote post or other embedded content]

Saturday night with Minnie Driver, 2xCusacks, an unhinged Dan Ackroyd, about a million bullets, and one hell of a soundtrack. Grosse Point Blank: perfect movie 👍🏻

Maybe it’s the painkillers but this one made me giggle for five full minutes. [contains quote post or other embedded content]

Him: you just finished ANOTHER book? Me: I’m literally physically unable to do anything except read & watch TV until this damn surgery is done so yeah, im on the book-a-day plan. 📚

Found this on my bookcase & had forgotten it existed! Alt-history/fantasy American west, with harpies & vampires and a mixed race hero/ine who just wants to wrangle broncs with the guys. Fast, bloody, and great fun - plus a brilliant ending. Must track down rest of the series. #booksky 💙📚

Apparently I have to be custom fittted for a neck brace before next week’s surgery and … https://static.klipy.com/ii/d7aec6f6f171607374b2065c836f92f4/56/d7/WEHsyczb.gif?hh=498&ww=498&mp4=WzFd8dc2MzSdtjPkf&webm=hbcsniuKruiZSeK8GDMK

Reread this one after many years - still love it. There’s gorgeous writing, a slow-reveal alien mystery, the corrosive effect of lies, & a heartbreaking depiction of mental illness and one woman’s unraveling. A propulsive build to a fantastic ending. “Planetfall” by Emma Newman. #BookSky 💙📚🪐

Things are fucked on so many levels right now - but I just stumbled on this clip of Damascus goats. Too bizarre and ridiculous to exist and yet they do. Magnificent. [contains quote post or other embedded content]

Another entry in the First Born realizing why his parents have So Much Stuff. Him, 1st time homeowner: you got any Halloween decorations I can have? 30 mins later he walks out happily carrying three big bags of Stuff - which will now take up residence in HIS basement. Thats how, kid 😏

Re-reading @birmo.bsky.social ‘s Disappearance trilogy and all those numpties saying “I never thought these horrors could happen in the US” clearly know squat about history but also never cracked open a SFF/alt history book cos damn! but the post-wave sections of this trilogy are prescient.

Baby boy heads back to UK tonight. On his way out the door: “I’m gonna be back sooner cos I miss too much.” Huh. Actually y’know what? Fair. Fair.
