Because long-haul flights make just as much $ on cargo as well as passengers. Airports like Atlanta or Newark work because they sit next to massive intermodal centers. A trucking company based in Atlanta is going to see its costs go nuts when it has to send its rigs to Jacksonville to pick up cargo.
