This is a heavily interactive web application, and JavaScript is required. Simple HTML interfaces are possible, but that is not what this is.

i think the only way you convince people to pay for a subscription like this is either the service sucks without the subscription or you make them feel like they're donating, and if you look at some of the text from the pr https://github.com/bluesky-social/social-app/pull/6977/commits/df9101774ccbc9e8c97926b6ab01722ef79510e0#diff-fc342ef130df8d139a0b3a09593a48bb0af4f2c5136fb4693e3dde26713feebaR226-R239 it's clear to me that they're going for the latter
