In the last century or so the incumbent always gets the nod for an 2nd term. Reagan almost broke that in '76 but lost to Ford by about 50 delegates, who in turn lost to Carter.
Biden should have been one term and stepped aside. A full primary cycle would have helped whatever candidate massively.
