You can't separate defence investment from the fiscal situation, which may be one of the reasons why Burnham moved Healey into the Treasury.
But the DIP only leaves a £0.9bn gap in 2029–30, when the fiscal rules bite. That gap is manageable without tearing up the rules or existing spending plans.
