This is a heavily interactive web application, and JavaScript is required. Simple HTML interfaces are possible, but that is not what this is.

Yeah, backward compatibility is a big part of it.
SQLite also runs on a very wide range of environments from embedded to large servers, which makes optimal defaults pretty difficult.
There’s also some Go specific things to worry about because Go programs tend to be highly parallel.
