I've written one proof, for Cole and VanRaden (2011; https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1439-0388.2011.00922.x). I showed that the upper- and lower-bound estimates of sampling variance we used actually were the upper- and lower-bounds. A reviewer said the result was obvious and to remove it. I never wrote a proof again.
