This is a heavily interactive web application, and JavaScript is required. Simple HTML interfaces are possible, but that is not what this is.

But the improvements will be from Preact being much much smaller than React overall.
And web components building ontop of that smaller bundle and being more standardised.
I'd also suspect Shopify doing some smarter caching and everyone uses the same components
