This is a heavily interactive web application, and JavaScript is required. Simple HTML interfaces are possible, but that is not what this is.

I agree on the human element being very important. I believe that contributes to making it a very unique and interesting community. The idea of that making it appealing to people building outside of computing is a great insight too.
