This is a heavily interactive web application, and JavaScript is required. Simple HTML interfaces are possible, but that is not what this is.

This is just working on the column *names*, which should be strings. So you shouldn't have any issues there.
But yeah, using str.replace and the like on a column with NaN values will end poorly!
