Reagan's 1987 repeal of the Fairness Doctrine didn't just change TV news — it broke it. Removing the legal requirement for balanced coverage opened the floodgates for partisan cable networks, opinion-as-news, and talk radio rage machines.
We're still living in that wreckage today.
