Until I was in my 30s I couldn't cook much - anything beyond "good ingredients, don't mess with 'em too much" was beyond me.
Then: I had a housemate (the world's only Welsh Mexican: don't ask) who wouldn't eat *anything* not from takeaway.
I taught myself to cook in reaction (and I'm glad I did)..
