This is a heavily interactive web application, and JavaScript is required. Simple HTML interfaces are possible, but that is not what this is.

one more specific thing about the chapter select UI: if you see a star with a white outline rather than a yellow star next to it, that shows that in that slot, you have completion data/a *completion* file, but no actual *save* file occupying that slot. the yellow star is for when you have both!
