Cows and bulls were like THE top tier religious focus early on. There are bull horns everywhere on Knossos (home of all these stories). Then on Santorini there are identical horns at an ancient site (Atlantis?) that thrived before the island blew up. And sent a giant tidal wave towards Crete.
