When telling a story, the precedent set by its genre is key. Even with the somewhat 'modern' features of FFXIV over its time, it is still, at its core, a fantasy game.
I could show a stranger a screenshot of anything pre-DT and they can tell its a fantasy game. If I showed this one? They wouldn't.
