This is a heavily interactive web application, and JavaScript is required. Simple HTML interfaces are possible, but that is not what this is.

The two environment have wildly different contexts: the server is a trusted source (within the server I can make assumptions about a function being called only after another), the client is an untrusted environment (an API might be called via that program or outside of it and in unpredictable ways).
