This is a heavily interactive web application, and JavaScript is required. Simple HTML interfaces are possible, but that is not what this is.

I think this is the answer -- there's no actual tree anywhere, unless you consider all binary searches to be implicit trees. I don't think the level structure itself is very tree-like. (And the basic LSM idea, a log compacted into mergeable snapshots, works with even less tree-like structures.)
