This is a heavily interactive web application, and JavaScript is required. Simple HTML interfaces are possible, but that is not what this is.

Yup. Afaik it doesn't even matter, fediverse instances generally won't deliver someone your posts until you've accepted their follow, but Bridgy Fed still implements and respects them.
