The thing people fail to grasp about this legacy COBOL is there are DECADES of patches, bug fixes, special cases and personally idiosyncratic code in there.
Sometime when coding you have to work around issues in...uh... non-standard ways.
We honestly CAN'T reproduce the embedded knowledge.
