They can't fire him, because he is the brand. He can (and would) bankrupt Tesla overnight, and the shareholders will sue.
But if he stays - they'll hemorrhage value until they get bought out.
The only solution is to cut a deal with Elmo where he "takes a sabbatical" but doesn't dump his shares.
