I have two small comments for you to consider:
1) your graph here features two-headed arrows (hence is not a DAG). To make it a DAG we need to consider the time series aspect of it.
2) I'm curious about 's(log(gdprppppc), prop_male)' in your model rather than 'ti(log(gdprppppc), prop_male)'
