For someone out there doing a search: A Sony VO-9850 with XLR outputs goes into the XLR inputs of a Motu M4 with an unnecessary amount of increased volume, meaning your audio gets rather overdriven. Use an XLR -> 1/4" Jack cable instead for buttery smooth transfer.
