Unless I am misunderstanding it, they’re not legal for many local streets which have a max gross vehicle weight of 6,000 lbs for non-commercial vehicles (Los Angeles’s ordinance for example: https://codelibrary.amlegal.com/codes/los_angeles/latest/lamc/0-0-0-165842). It just goes unenforced.
