The strength of pineapple on a pizza is that - especially on a cooked tomato sauce where umami, garlic and herbs and spices are the most pronounced flavor - you get sour, tangy and sweet to help round out and enhance the other flavors on the pizza.
Pineapple should be a gateway fruit on pizza, imo
