I'm sorry, but I don't think this thread is fair... Science often involves multiple steps of attribution. Hopfield cited Amari (as noted), and Hinton cited Hopfield. That's appropriate. Scientists don't need to cite everything from the entirety of history. None of us do that. Not even Jurgen.
